40 Book Challenge

Welcome to the Southside Library!

Hi! I am Ashley Hunt, the Library Media Specialist at Southside. Reading is such an important skill for our students to learn. I don't want students from Southside to just know HOW to read, I want them to LOVE to read, and that is what I strive for every day!

Some facts about our library:

Our library is open from 7:50-3:00 each day.

Students visit the library at least once each week, but they may checkout as often as they like!

Kindergarten and 1st Grade students may check out 1 book at a time.

2nd-5th Grade students may check out 2 books at a time.

We have 2 book fairs each year - one in the fall and one in the spring.

We have lots of contests, challenges and activities in the library, so stay tuned for our next fun opportunity!

Battle of the Books

Each year Harrison County Elementary Schools host a competition called Battle of the Books. Throughout the year students read books from either the Primary or Intermediate battle lists. The lists are made by the Library Media Specialists and contain some of the BEST BOOKS EVER for kids to read! Each spring, Primary and Intermediate teams are selected and compete against the other elementary schools to see which school really knows their books!

You may visit Mrs. Hunt's blog to see the Battle Lists for this year - the links are at the top of the page under the books.
