PARENTS AND STUDENTS!!
Our school year has gone by oh so quickly! Battle of the Books is this Thursday, March 15th at the Harrison County High School auditorium. Wilson Duckworth from our classroom is a team member. We are very proud of his accomplishment! Thank you Wilson for working hard to make the team!

Eastside’s Science Fair is April 5th I am very excited about it. Please call at school if you have any questions.

Even though we only have 9 weeks left…they are very important weeks. Please be diligent in being at school on time, being here everyday, and completing your homework!

Have a great day!

Parents and Students,
Eastsiders are beginning their fourth week of school! I can hardly believe it! Students are stepping up to the responsibilities of a fourth grader, like returning forms with parents’ signature, signing up for cheerleading, football and 4-H, and where they go to after school. All students need to remember to have parents sign forms, agendas, or whatever and return to school with it.There have been quite a few changes with hallway and restroom behavior which have not been a problem for most of the students. These tasks help the student practice responsibility and helps them feel successful. Parents please read or listen to your child read each night. Students need to read every night for at least 15-20 minutes. It is a very important habit and will support and in some cases, increase, your child’s reading ability. Again, these are everyday tasks which help students feel responsible and increase the good feelings they have about their student tasks. Please discuss with your child what they do during the school day. Ask them what they learned, or what their favorite topic was. I know that once or twice a week they should be able to tell you something that will surprise you that they have learned. Students are really learning alot each day and when they share what they learned with you, it actually helps them remember the information better. You will be helping your child practice/study for their next test! It’s like getting two for one!!!! Thank you for supporting your child’s education!

Hello Students and Parents,

Our year has gotten off to a very exciting start! Parents have volunteered to help out in many ways and that shows support for our class! Thanks to all who have returned the forms! I know that is a big hassel at the beginning of the year, but it is important. I hope everyone is having good, positive feelings, as I am, about this fourth grade class!
Our student body is settling in very nicely with the new “common area” rules. Our hallways are quiet, and the restrooms are more quiet than in the past. Many people have commented on how nice our hallways are.It seems to be having a very positive affect on the students. I think this is going to be a wonderful school year!

Thanks for supporting your child,
Carla Hill

Hey Parents and Students,

Lots of stuff going on these last 13 days of school. Fourth graders have a Field Trip. Since we will be in county, no permission slips are necessary. It will cost 2.00 for us to get the busses, however, so please send it in asap. If your child signed up to bring lunch from home, please be sure they have a lunch that day! Everything tends to be a litttle hectic this time of year so I really like to keep my class as normal as possible. Please remind your young one that all rules still apply and discipline needs to be and will be maintained. Thanks for all your support this year. It has been a very good year!

Thanks,

Ms. Hill

Students and Parents,
I hope my students are “gearing up” for some hard work and catching up when we return to school. I just wanted to help you stay “in the groove” by posting a few web sites that will definitely keep your brain exercised during these snow days! Most of you have played games on Quia and Engaging Science, below is a new site:
object type=”application/x-shockwave-flash” data=”http://www.bbc.co.uk/schools/ks2bitesize/science/flash/changing_state.swf”
width=”584″
height=”300″>

Please play all of them, but be sure to play water cycle and weather….as these are our current and near future subjects. Hopefully you will hear words like precipitation, evaporation, and condensation. These are basic words associated with the water cycle. Some questions you might ask yourself are: What happens during the water cycle if temperatures decrease?
What happens during the water cycle if temperatures increase?
Where does weather take place? In the troposhere. You might find atmosphere and locate the troposhere.
Draw the water cycle. Be sure to label the main terms.

Parents, please be prepared to help your child watch weather forecasts, make predictions about the weather, and document current conditions. I tell my students go home and teach someone what you learned today! As a parent you can help your child feel supported in their school work by asking what they learned that day, or what they would like to discuss about their school day that was informative for them!
Thanks for your positive support of your child’s education!
I can’t wait until we are finally on a regular routine, and looking back on these snowdays, with a big smile!!!!!

WOW! I have lost count of the snow days! Students are beginning to ask why I’m sending home more homework. Hopefully that makes sense to the parents as we have missed so many opportunities to study, read and learn this winter. I am concerned that we may get so far behind that catching up will be impossible. Please have your child complete all homework packets. These reading and writing assignments will lessen the impact of the snowdays and thereby keep your child practicing on a daily basis.
Our class will have a very quick, short Valentine’s Day party on Monday, February 14 @2:30. Our class works very hard when we are in school, so we enjoy ourselves at every opportunity!
Thanks,
Ms. Hill

HAPPY HOLIDAYS!!!

I hope everyone had a lovely Thanksgiving holiday with family and friends! Please know that in fourth grade we work very hard during the next three weeks! We discussed this morning the importance of getting back on track and staying there until we leave for Christmas break. Your child needs your support at this time of year to remain on task, especially with their homework and getting items returned to school. I will be more than willing to do all I can to help focus your child during this extra busy time of year. Please share with your child the importance of school work and responsibility during this holiday season.

Thank you!

Parents and Students,

Multiplication facts have become and priority here in 4th grade. Parents please help your child learn these facts by repetitiously going over and over them. The students are really doing much better but practice will make perfect! Rocks for science class is a favorite of many students. We are right in the thick of rocks and they are being shared and enjoyed by all.
Hope everyone is having a great week!

Thanks,
Mrs. Hill
