Wrapping Things Up!!!

Well it is almost official…we are into our last 4 weeks of school and boy has it flown by (at least for me, it has).
This has been a fantastic school year and I have had a great group of kids to spend it with. Thanks for sharing them with me!!!!
We have lots of things going on in the next couple of weeks..busy, busy, busy but fun, fun, fun!!!

On Monday, April 30th it is Crazy Hair Day
Tuesday, May 1st is Sports Day
Wednesday, May 2nd is MIxed Match Day
Thursday, May 3rd is Hat Day
Friday, May 4th is Eastside Spirit Day

Be creative, put your thinking caps on, and send those kiddos to school and let them show themselves off. Have fun with this but remember that whatever you do with your child, please make sure that they can still maneuver through their school day!!!

We will be having testing next week, May 7-11, and although our testing is not for the state level, it is still very important for the development and structure of your child. The tests that we will be taking are grade level tests that will help to determine their academic achievements throughout this school year.
Please make sure that your child is at school every day next week so that they do not get behind in their testing schedule as these tests will have to be made up if the student misses any day, so in order to help them out and to get things completed, please make sure they come to school every day!!!

I hope that everyone had a great weekend and I look forward to seeing all of my guys and gals bright and early tomorrow morning, so get a good nights sleep and see you later!!! :)

Field Trip News!!!

All four of our first grade classes will be taking a field trip on Wednesday, April 18th. We will be going to the Hummel Planetarium at the EKU campus. We will be leaving the school at 9:00am and returning by 2:30pm. The show begins at 10:45am. The cost for students is $7.00 to cover the cost of the ticket and transportation. The money and permission slip must be returned to school by Monday April 16th, if you have not already turned these in. Adults are permitted to attend but will have to provide their own transportation. Students MUST ride the bus to and from the planetarium–they WILL NOT be permitted to ride with anyone to or from the planetarium. The cost for adults is $4.00 each and must be paid upon arrival to the Planetarium. We will be doing a picnic lunch after the show. Your child is permitted to bring a lunch from home or can sign up for a school lunch. We are looking forward to a great field trip!

Classroom News Update

Hello Everyone,

Here is an update to some things that are going on in the classroom…

Easter Party is on Friday, April 6th at 1:45

Picture money is due by Wednesday, April 4th. If you want to order spring pictures, you must have your money and order form in by this date.

Field trip money is due by Friday, April 6th. There was a small dating error on the previous field trip about when to send money and permission slips to school–the former letter stated that these needed to be turned in by Friday, April 13th and as you know, we will be on spring break that week. We have to have the money and permission slips turned in BEFORE spring break so that we can let bus drivers know that number going, so that we can let the office know the number that are going, and so that we can get the money turned in to the central office so that we can purchase tickets to the planetarium. Please try to get this turned in as soon as you can.

Thank you. The kids had a great time at Cedar Ridge yesterday during their egg hunt. We made some little Easter gifts for the residents as a small thank you for inviting us over and I am sure that they will enjoy their crafty handiwork. They had a great time, received some early Easter candy, and a few even won some prizes. It was great fun for ALL involved!!!

Welcome Back!!! :)

Hello Everyone,
I hope that everyone got to enjoy some fun in the snow on Monday (our unexpected day off).
We have some exciting things going on this week. We will be finishing up some of our Dr. Suess activities that we did not get to complete on Friday because of our early dismissal.
I hope that everyone weathered the storms well this weekend and the snow on Monday. Please keep your thoughts and prayers for those who were less fortunate and for those that were affected by the weekend storms.
More to come later.
Have a great day!!!

Welcome Back From a Nice Long Weekend!!

Well I hope that everyone had a good long weekend and had lots of time to rest, relax, and have some fun!!!

We didn’t get any snow but the time off was worth it. I guess that we are just going to have to chalk this winter season up to the “unsnowiest” winter season that we have had for quite some time. Although I am bummed about not being able to use our new sleds from Christmas, I am ready for some warm weather and am already thinking about swimming pools and outdoor activities.

That’s it for now, enjoy the rest of your day and talk to you soon.

Another Snow Day!!! :)

Well hello everyone,
I guess everyone is enjoying another snow day at home. I wish that we had gotten more snow so that we could have gotten outside to play in the snow but, on the bright side, we do get an unexpected day off!!! I hope the kids enjoy it!!!

Thank you to all for the fantastic valentine treats that you sent in to help make our ‘celebration’ a huge success. The kids really had a great time and seemed to enjoy the day. Thanks again.

Just a quick note on the academic front…

We took our first Language Arts Common Assessment last Thursday and I must admit, I was a bit worried about how the kids would do. Mainly because this was our 1st L.A. common assessment (not because they couldn’t do it) and it was a bit difficult. BUT I must say, this little 1st grade class REALLY ROCKED this test!!!!!! They did an awesome job and I couldn’t be prouder, so make sure to give them ALL a big hug and a pat on the back for all their hard work!!!!

Just a quick note to those of you who may not know what common assessments are:

Common Assessments are assessments (tests) that are given by ALL grade levels at the same time over the same material. We have been doing Math Common Assessments throughout the entire school year and the kids have been doing an EXCELLENT job on those as well. The Language Arts Common Assessments (or ELA, as they are commonly known by us) have just been started. We will have 2 more of these between now and the rest of the year. We have common assessments each 6 week period. Anyway, that is probably more technicality than you wanted to hear (read) right now, so I will stop with this.

Long story short, the kids are doing a fabulous job and I just wanted you to know that.

Enjoy your day and see all of you guys tomorrow!!!

Valentines Day

News from the classroom…

We will be having a valentine celebration on Tuesday, February 14th. We will NOT be having a full blown party. We have RTI on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday and in order to keep things on schedule we will not be having a big party but a small classroom celebration.

The kids WILL need to make their own valentine box. Please get creative with these as they are very fun to make and are lots of fun to do with your child. Valentine boxes need to be brought to school by Monday, February 13th.

The kids are more than welcome to bring valentines and we will pass those out on Tuesday morning for the kids to enjoy. If you would like to send in some individually wrapped snacks such as Little Debbie snack cakes, individually wrapped valentine treats, etc. you are more than welcome to do that. The kids will really enjoy them. Please DO NOT send in cakes or cupcakes.

We will be having some valentine activities throughout the day and will have our valentine snacks at about 1:15. At 2:00 we will switch classes for RTI and continue with our schedule.

Please feel free to send in items for the party and look forward to all the valentine cards and treats that the kids will be bringing home.

Good Evening Everyone

Hello All,
I hope this week finds everyone doing well. It has been pretty busy in the classroom and I wanted to share a bit of news with all of you…

1st-we have started going to the computer lab on Wednesday’s to enhance many of our growing 1st grade skills. We will be working with math activities, reading activities, spelling, grammar, and so much more. These activities will be very interactive and will be very enjoyable for the kids…after all, who knows a kid out there that does not like to play on the computer????

2nd-if we do not miss any more school between now and Monday, Monday, January 30th will be our 100th day of school!!!! YAY!!!!
We have lots of exciting activities planned for the 100th day but the best activity that I think the kids will enjoy the most is an activity that they get to do with you……we are making 100th day shirts!!!!! It really is easy-all you have to do is get a shirt (do not need to go out and buy one, just find an old t-shirt around the house that you don’t mind decorating), decide on an item that you have, would like to have, or can get 100 of, and we are going to attach each one of these items to your shirt. DON’T PANIC!!!! It really is a simple project that can bring lots of enjoyment to your household.

3rd-we are really focusing on sentence writing, structure, and awareness. This is a very time-consuming process and can be very frustrating but please understand that they will get it with time and practice.

1st grade is a very exciting and busy time in the life of your little
one(s) and just to see how much they grow each day can be amazing…thank you for letting me be a part of that!!!
