Week of May 14th

Filed under: Uncategorized — Administrator @ 3:31 pm

This is the last full week of school. We will finish off the year by reviewing some basic concepts and then taking the G-MADE test on Thursday and Friday of this week. This test will help us determine at what level each student is working. It will also help us determine which math class they will be in next year.

ADVANCED MATH
This week students are starting to explore some geometric concepts such as different name of polygons, special quadrilaterals, and perimeter and area of these figures. There will be a bellringer quiz on Friday over material covered on this and last weeks bellringers.

REGULAR MATH:
We are continuing to work with exponents this week, but they are now incorporated into order of operation problems (with are expressions that require more than one step to solve). There will a bellringer quiz this Friday over material covered in this and last weeks bellringer questions.

Week of March 19

Filed under: Uncategorized — Administrator @ 12:33 pm

All classes took their 3rd 9 weeks test last week. Of the papers I have graded, the results look really good.

REGULAR MATH
The students helped me make a peanut butter and jelly sandwich in order to introduce the concept of ORDER OF OPERATIONS in math problems. Just like there is a certain order things must be done in order to make a pb and j sandwich, there is also a certain way problems must be solved in math.

ADVANCED MATH:
We are continuing with translating and evaluating expressions, but we are moving to include some geometric formulas into this concept. We will be working with area and perimeter of some geometric figures such as rectangles and triangles.

ADVANCED MATH:
The advanced math class has been working on translating expressions. That means taking them from word form and writing them using numbers, variables and math symbols. We will be moving on to substituting the variable in the expressions with numbers and evaluating them. This will be the last concept covered before we have our end of the 9 weeks test on Thursday of next week (3/15).

REGULAR MATH:
The regular math classes are finishing up their unit on integers this week. The last area we are looking at in this concept is using integers in the coordinate plane. We will also be having our end of the 9 weeks test on Thursday of next week (3/15)

There is no school on Friday, March 16th.

Adv Math
Students are beginnning to work with some pre-algebra concepts. We just finished looking at Order of Operations. (Ask them about making the peanut butter and jelly sandwich.) We are moving on to translating expressions from word form to number form.

REGULAR MATH
We are just finishing up our unit on ratios. The last concept we looked at in terms of ratios is using equivalent ratios to convert from one type of unit measure to another. Ex: feet to inches, pints to gallons, etc… We are now moving on to integers which are positive and negative numbers.

THERE WILL BE A BELLRINGER QUIZ ON FRIDAY!!!

ADV MATH
Students will be graphing each others projects that were due last Friday. Student had a good time creating their own designs and graphing another student’s design.

This week we will also begin working on with expressions and equations. Beginning with a review of whole number exponents.

REGULAR MATH
Students have been using ratios to find the unit rates of items and determine the best buy. We will continue working with ratios but will begin using them to find percents of numbers and to find the whole given a part and the percent.

Adv math:
Students should be working on their coordinate graphing project which is due Friday, January 27th. Students are working with positive and negative numbers on a coordinate plane. They are creating a design and giving the coordinates of each point in their design. Based on their instructions another student should be able to follow the instructions to create the same design.

Regular math:
We are continuing with ratios and beginning to look at rates and unit rates within this concept. Students will be learning how to apply rates and unit rate to do such things as find the best buy of products, figure miles per gallon, etc…

Welcome back, I hope everyone enjoyed the long break and comes back ready to get down to business.

ADVANCED MATH
We will begin the year by looking at integers (which are positive and negative numbers). The students will learn how they are used in the real world, how to locate and integer on a number line, what absolute value is, and how to graph integers in a coordinate plane.

REGULAR MATH
The regular math classes will be working on ratios, equivalent ratios, unit rates, graphing ratios on a coordinate place. They will also learn how to simplify ratios to lowest terms and how ratios are used in the real world.

Signed Quiz, Project, and Tutoring Referrals

Filed under: Uncategorized — Administrator @ 10:26 am

Game Design ProjectGame Design ProjectAll students should be bringing home the quiz they took over decimals. Please take a minute to look over the quiz and sign that you saw their grade. If your student returns it to me by Friday, September 23, I will add 5 pts. to their quiz score. On that same note…I will be sending home tutoring referral for students that seem to be struggling in math. Since we have taken 2 quizzes at this point, I am basing my referrals on students that did not do well on either quiz. I will not be tutoring myself, but it is set up through Ms. Glascock.

Students will also begin working on a project this week. The students have been given an instruction packet and rubric on the project. They will be designing a game based on decimal concepts. See attachment for additional information, deadlines, etc…
