Students will be working in small groups to complete a project. The majority of the work will be completed in class, but some outside work may be required.

April 23 – April 27

April 23rd, 2012

We will be working to wrap up the Middle East and North Africa this week. Despite my best intentions, we will probably need to extend the unit into next week, but I am hopeful that we will fit in the unit test by the end of next week and move on to Africa.

The HCMS girls and boys soccer teams play at home this week on both Tuesday and Thursday. These are the last 2 regular season home games, so please come out and show your support for our middle school soccer players.

April 16-20

April 16th, 2012

This week we will be starting our study of Southwest Asia and Northern Africa. Students will work on both political and physical maps. We will also be completing a practice On-Demand Writing assignment with a social studies focus. Students will be asked to select a current issue and write a Letter to the Editor to promote awareness of the issue. This piece will become part of their cummulative writing folder.

April 2-6

April 2nd, 2012

This week in social studies we will be wrapping up Europe. Students will have their test on Thursday. It will include 20 multiple choice questions. We will spend a little time in class Wednesday reviewing. Friday we will have presentations for the Europe menu activities. I know that some students and parents were a little disappointed in the Europe map quiz grades and the impact that this had on the students’ overall grades. I have updated my grades since last week and the grades now reflect the menu activities and two sets of bellringers. Please check the parent portal and let me know if you have any questions.

March 26-30

March 26th, 2012

I returned the Europe map quizzes back to the students today. Any students who scores a 24/36 (66%) or lower must have the test signed by a parent and returned to me tomorrow. Students will lose their daily break until the test is returned signed. Please check with your child tonight or on parent portal to see how they did. Menu items are also due this Thursday, March 29th. I do not accept late menu items.

March 19-23

March 19th, 2012

The Europe map quiz will be Friday, March 23. Students must label a blank political map of Europe. They will have a word bank of the countries and the map will be split into eastern and western, but students will take both sections this Friday.

March 12-16

March 14th, 2012

We will be continuing our study of Europe for the next few weeks. Students will be taking their 3rd nine weeks exam on Wednesday and Thursday. This is not something that students should be studying for. Menu items are due March 29. There is no school on Friday, March 16.

March 5-9

March 7th, 2012

The 9 weeks ends this Friday, so make sure that you have all of your missing work turned in. Europe menu activities are due on Thursday, March 29th. Please do not put these off until the last minute!
