April 30

This week we will be reading Simple Machines from our big reading book.  Our spelling words will have the /oy/ sound in them spelled oi or oy.  In math, we will continue to work in stations to review our concepts.  This week we will also begin working on special notes for the fifth graders in Mrs. Jones’ class.  We will distribute the first of these on Friday at a testing pep rally and then hand the others out each day next week they will be testing.  The students always enjoy making these goodies for the older children so it should be a fun treat for them as well.

I hope everyone has a great week!

This week we will be reading Dot and Jabber and the Great Acorn Mystery from our big reading books.  Our spelling words this week will include /oo/ like the sounds you hear in book or moon.  We will continue to review types of sentences in grammar, focusing on what makes a good sentence this week.  In math, we will continue stations to review the concepts learned through the year.  They will get to use iPods again this week so it should be another fun week of math for them!

As the end of school is quickly approaching there will be many fun activities planned for the students and I will let you know what these are as they get closer.  As most of you probably are aware, I will not be here to finish out the school year either, but I assure you that your child will be left in great hands.  I am planning on working until my due date, which would be until May 11th (Providing he doesn’t have other plans).  Retired first grade teacher, Mrs. Angie Carr will finish out the year for me.  She is the same teacher who covered the week for me before Christmas break when I had to be off with my mother.  The kids loved her and she is wonderful.  It will be a great ending to a wonderful year.  These kids are exceptional and I wouldn’t just leave them with anyone!!!

Anyways, I hope everyone has a great week!
