Prom 2023 is nearly here! Get your tickets!

Starting Monday, April 10, 2023, Harrison County High School will accept nominations for Site Based Decision Making Council Parent Members for the 2023-2024 school year. To be eligible to serve as a SBDMC Parent Member, you must be a parent of a student at HCHS for the 2023-2024 school year.
The legal definition of parent (KRS 160.345.1.c) allows biological parents, stepparents, foster parents or persons who have court ordered legal custody to be nominated or to vote. According to the law, parents who are nominated or who wish to vote must have a child “pre-registered to attend” the school for next year. If a child is in Grade 8 this year and will attend our school next year the parents of that child would be eligible to be nominated, or vote in the election for the next year’s school SBDM council. Parents of 12th graders who are exiting our school may nominate, but cannot vote for candidates.
Parent SBDM council members cannot be employed in or be related to someone who is employed in the school or in the district administrative offices. An Attorney General’s Opinion (OAG 90-102) says that “relative” as used in this section should have the same definition found in KRS 160.180 and KRS160.380 that applies to school boards. This means that a parent who is a “father, mother, brother, sister, husband, wife, son, daughter, aunt, uncle, son-in-law or daughter-in-law” of someone who works at the school or in the district administrative offices could not be a parent SBDM council member. Parent members cannot be a board member or a board member’s spouse, nor can they have a business interest in the school.
Please complete and return a nomination form no later than 3:00 p.m. on Friday, April 21, 2023.
Elections will take place Monday, April 24, 2023 - Friday, April 28, 2023 in the Harrison County High School Front Office from 8 a.m. - 4 p.m. Eligible parents may also schedule a time to vote in the evenings by appointment.
*8th grade parents may also vote at Harrison Co. MS Front Office.
All voting will end Friday, April 28, 2023 at 4 p.m. and results will be posted in The Cynthiana Democrat, Harrison County website, and Harrison County PTO Facebook and Twitter page.
Any questions regarding SBDMC Elections or to schedule a time to vote, please contact Susan Yearsley at susan.yearsley@harrison.kyschools.us or call 859-234-7117 ext. 2101.
